Chalk Emerald

The Chalk Emerald is a 37.82-carat emerald cut that originated from Colombia. It is thought to have belonged to a great king of India where it was set in a diamond and emerald necklace. Since then, it was cut down from 38.4 carats to it's present size and set in a ring among 60 pear-shaped diamonds, themselves totaling 15 carats.

The ring earns it's name from the charatible gift of the ring to the Smithsonian Institution Museum of Natural History in 1972 by O. Roy Chalk, owner of prominent New York Spanish-language newspaper El Diario La Prensa, until his death in 1995.
