Mackay Emerald

Donated by Anna Case Mackay to the National Gem Collection, a part of the Smithsonian Institution, the rose cut emerald sharing his namesake is the largest cut emerald gemstone in the collection, weighing in at 167.97 carats. The Mackay Emerald was found at the famous emerald mine in Muzo, Colombia.

The stone is the centerpiece in a large diamond and platinum necklace styled in the art deco fashion.

The necklace was originally a gift from Ms. Mackay of the New York Metropolitan Opera from her husband, Clarence Mackay.
